The World Catastrophe Map nav bar. catastrophemap.com [UPDATE 4 October 2011: Sadly, World Catastrophe Map has closed down for good.] Occasionally, Desdemona runs across a site or a blog that’s uncannily dialed into the Des vibe. All dedicated Doomers know the Apocadocs and Wit’s End, but the World Catastrophe Map is a new and delectable find for Des. “Let the End Times Roll” is the strapline, FTW. The prominent navbar at the top of the page categorizes global doom into 10 maps:

  • Fun Bible Stories
  • Dirty Water, Drought, and Devastation
  • Deforestation and Desertification
  • Nuclear Catastrophes and Hot Sites
  • Is It Just Me, Or Is It Warm In Here? (Global Warming)
  • Humammals At Their Worst
  • The Dow of Pollution: Better Living Through Chemistry
  • Extinction
  • Drill Baby Drill!
  • The Global Mining Mess

Each category has a nice clickable map that shows the latest doom at a glance: Dirty Water, Drought, and Devastation map by World Catastrophe Map. catastrophemap.com There’s even a tiny link at the top of the page, named Hope, which seems to serve approximately the same purpose as Technozoic serves for Desdemona. Since the Climate Hot Map hasn’t been updated since 2003, the World Catastrophe Map is a worthy successor and an essential addition to every Doomer’s link collection.
