(The Olive Press) – This is the shocking moment a street in Madrid was turned into ‘hellish’ rapids following storms and heavy rainfall this afternoon. [h/t Bill]

Vehicles can be seen being washed away by the gushing stream in the streets of Arganda, an area just south east of Madrid capital.

The footage was tweeted by climate expert Mario Picazo.

“A strong thunderstorm has hit the southeast of Madrid,” he wrote, “These are the first images from the streets of Arganda, where the skies have collapsed in just a few minutes… wow!” […]

Arganda saw 40 litres of hail fall per square metre between 5.30pm and 6pm. […]

“The storm started around 6pm and only lasted about 10 minutes but has caused a disaster,” one local told El Mundo.

“I have been living here for 20 years and have never seen anything like it.” [more]
