2 November 2019 (NBC 6) – Miracle, the dog that was discovered after having spent more than three weeks trapped under destroyed air conditioning units in Marsh Harbour in the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian, will meet his new adoptive family next weekend.

Since the dog’s rescue in early October, he has been recovering at Big Dog Ranch Rescue in West Palm Beach from a number of afflictions he sustained.

On 12 November 2019, Big Dog will unveil Miracle’s new adoptive family. After news of the dog went viral, over ten thousand adoption requests from Australia to London were received.

“While one family will adopt Miracle, there are so many other wonderful rescue dogs who would love to go to a new home,” said Big Dog Ranch Rescue Founder and President Lauree Simmons.

“I am asking all those who may not be selected as Miracle’s new owner to please consider bringing their own Miracle home. Adopt a dog in honor of him.”

While trapped in rubble, Miracle was unable to move, lived off rainwater from a mud puddle his outstretched neck could barely reach, and tried repeatedly to chew his way out of his entrapment.

These resulted in a shrunken stomach, parasites, muscular atrophy, and a respiratory infection. Staff had to feed him carefully every two hours, and cuts on his mouth and body all had to be bandaged.

Miracle is also learning to walk again, and has been following a carefully planned schedule of movement and massages.

“He is walking a little more, has put on a few more pounds, and the sparkle in his eyes is as loving as ever,” said a spokesperson from Big Dog. [more]
