25 February 2019 (Sky News) – The highest ever winter temperature has been recorded in the UK, the Met Office has said, reaching 20.3C (69F) in west Wales.
It is “the first time we’ve recorded over 20 degrees in winter”, the Met Office added.
It tweeted that the temperature “reached 20.3C at Trawsgoed, Ceredigion, making it the UK’s warmest February day on record”.
The previous record was 19.7C, recorded in Greenwich, southeast London, on 13 February 1998.
The balmy conditions are being caused by high pressure over the middle of the Continent which is bringing warm air up from the Mediterranean. [more]
