Louisiana authorities report oil sightings from Gulf of Mexico spill

Tuesday, September 07, 2010, 4:47 PM Here is a list, released by Louisiana emergency officials, of areas where oil was sighted recently. The list is not a comprehensive tally of areas affected by the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Plaquemines Parish Thursday
- Oil sheen in Blind Bay, a half mile north of Southeast Pass.
- Oil sheen in Garden Island Bay 1.36 miles southeast of South Pass Light.
- Oil on the beach on the west side of Burrwood Bay 1.65 miles east of Southwest Pass Lighthouse.
- Oil on Burrwood Beach 3.88 miles northeast of Southwest Pass Lighthouse.
Friday
- Submerged oil with tar balls in Garden Island Bay 1.44 miles east-northeast of Port Eads;
- Oil sheen in Dixon Bay 1.37 miles west-northwest of W-1 Tank Battery Seaplane Base;
- Oil sheen in Dixon Bay 1.79 miles northwest of W-1 Tank Battery Seaplane Base.
Tuesday
- Oil sighted leaving marsh going back into the water due to tide movement in northwest Bay Coquette.
Cameron Parish Thursday
- Several tar balls on the beach along the Cameron Parish shoreline. Tar balls recovered by Forensic Rapid Assessment Teams (FRAT) for analysis.
Lafourche Parish Tuesday
- Emulsified oil, 10 feet by 3 feet, 2.22 miles southwest of Elmer’s Island.
