13 July 2013 (BBC) – Torrential rain and landslides in the west of China have left more than 200 people dead or missing. Sichuan and Shaanxi provinces have been the worst affected by severe flooding and mudslides. Now more than 300,000 people have been evacuated as Typhoon Soulik hits the country’s eastern coastline. Nick Childs reports.

12 July 2013  (BBC) – Torrential rain and landslides in western China have left more than 200 people dead or missing in recent days, state media and the government said. Floodwaters surging through Sichuan province have swept away bridges, houses and hillsides. It is the worst flooding in 50 years in some areas, with more than 100,000 people forced to leave their homes.

Swollen rivers swept away bridges. Floodwater has reached as high as 7 meters in Beichuan County where collapsed hotels and other buildings damaged by the quake have been preserved. Beichuan is one of the areas hit hard by the disaster that left 87,000 people dead or missing.
