February 03, 2011 6:00PM THE Government’s global warming adviser Ross Garnaut today warned flood and storm battered Australians: “You ain’t seen nothing yet”. Prof Garnaut said climate change caused by global warming would increase the incidence of severe weather features and cause bigger natural disasters. He did not directly blame global warming for the magnitude of destruction caused by Queensland floods and cyclone Yasi. But he said climate change theory had been confirmed by studies of higher temperatures and increasingly severe storms in the north Atlantic, and would probably apply here. “The odds seem to favour the proposition that cyclonic events will be more intense in a hotter world,” said Professor Garnaut, an economist who acknowledged he was not a climate scientist. He said: “If we are seeing an intensification of weather events now, you ain’t seen nothing yet.” …
