Published: Tuesday, June 29, 2010, 4:08 PM    Tropical Storm Alex is strengthening and is expected to become a hurricane over the next few hours, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm’s winds have reached 70 mph and the Center says the storm is becoming better organized as it moves toward the south Texas and northeastern Mexico. Though Alex will stay away from the site of the BP oil leak, forecasters have said surges from the storm could push additional oil onto the Gulf Coast.
