February 8, 2010 NO MATTER how much it rains, it never seems to hit the right spots, but at the weekend the water may have finally found the dams. The Warragamba catchment received its biggest fall in 2½ years. Total drinking storage increased by about 2 per cent since the rain began last Wednesday. Yesterday the catchment had received 55 per cent more rainfall in five days than it would usually receive in a month. A spokesman for the Water Minister, Phil Costa, said it was hoped levels would rise further over the next few days as moderate to heavy inflows moved towards the dam. But the heavy rain at the weekend caused havoc across the state. By yesterday afternoon the SES had received more than 1500 calls for assistance, almost half from northern Sydney. …
