Heavy rain boosts farmers' morale, but drought not over
February 11, 2010 – 1:55PM (AAP) Heavy rainfall has brought much relief to drought affected areas across NSW, providing a morale boost for those living on the land, the government says. New figures show 65.7 per cent of NSW is drought affected – a 16 per cent drop since last month. “As we approach the end of summer, some parts of NSW are in a good position; they have experienced steady, soaking rain which has filled dams and creeks,” Primary Industries minister Steve Whan said today. “Importantly, this rain has also injected some life back into the pastures, providing a real morale boost for those living on the land.” … However, the drought is far from over especially in western and southern parts of NSW. Some areas near Broken Hill and Tibooburra received no rain at all in the past month. …
